Today was a very scary day for us. Erica woke up abit whiney and just slightly warm, so I figured she must be teething and gave her some tylenol to make her more comfortable. Little did I know what was coming next.
Erica was sitting on my lap watching tv and suddenly jerked abit and started to cry. I thought she just fell asleep and got startled and thought i'd take her upstairs and lie down with her, since she wasn't feeling well. Ya, well on the way upstairs, she started convulsing and gagging, and that is when I realized she was having a seizure. I started yelling down to Gerry to hurry and come quick and then raced into the livingroom with her. We lyed her on the carpet, holding her firmly and trying to get her to snap out of it (we didn't know what to do) and I kept yelling at Gerry to do something, do CPR!! She's not breathing right...but she was getting some air in, so Gerry didn't think we could do CPR. We called 911 and they assured us an ambulance was on the way and in the meantime to talk to her, reassure her that were there for her. It was the longest 2 minutes of my life....I kept thinking oh my god, is she going to die on me, this can't be happening. Her lips started turning blue, then her face and her eyes were rolling in the back of her head, I've never seen anything freakier in my life.
At the hospital, they tested her urine, did an x-ray of her chest to look for infection, did blood work and monitored her vitals. She was pretty out of it for a while, which they say is normal during the recovery period, after a seizure. Part of her one lung was abit blurry, so they think she might have a touch of pneumonia and that might of spiked a feberal seizure. They have to assume that is what happened until they get her in for an EEG to look for any neurological issues. I'm just praying it was a one time thing. In the meantime, we need to keep her on antibiotics and motrin and tylenol to keep her temperature low and even. I'm nervous about her having another one, so Gerry is going to sleep with her over the next while, till we're sure she's okay and i'll have Connor with me.
Luckily my parents were on holidays and rushed over to watch the rest of the gang. Thank-god for family.
